Taurian World School pioneers unique 1-year ‘Art of Living in Campus’ programme in Jharkhand

Taurian World School (TWS), the best boarding school in Jharkhand* and among the India’s top 30 boarding schools**, has become the first educational institution in the State to induct a unique one-year Art of Living in Campus programme for its senior students and staff. The year-long programme to ensure a stress-free campus will aim at redefining the role of education but also addressing the new demands made on modern day education system in a world of accelerating economic, environmental and social changes.

Explaining the objective behind the initiative to entice Art of Living programme, Taurian World School’s Founder, Mr. Amith Bajla said, “We felt that education should have a holistic approach and that learning should be joyful, stress-free and experimental as well. We, at Taurian World School, are happy to use Art of Living as one of the new ways to effectively implement our core Indian value system and principles in education while helping students deal with life’s problems, challenges and difficulties.”

Taurian World School’s Principal Mr. Atul Bhatt added, “We are already noticing a change in approach among the students, who have attended the Art of Living session. They all feel more positive and can concentrate better. The 1-year long Art of Living programme will foster loving, caring, sharing and respect for all in Taurian World School students.”

The students attending the Art of Living session are already ecstatic. They feel that they are already empowered with an element of positivity and a change has already ushered in their approach to life, studies and work. Talking about his experience with Art of Living, Ankit Kishore, a Science student of Class XII of the School, said, “I have already experienced a lot of change within myself. I have developed a better understanding of what is right and what is wrong and now I can also make my friends aware about it. The Art of Living has also helped me in increasing my level of concentration and made me focus on our Indian value system. I can feel the change in myself. We were taught about the Sudarshan Kriya (breathing technique) and we can feel and realize how effective it is.”

Echoing Ankit’s views were his friends in the School, Vasudhara Poddar and Akshay Munjal, both Commerce students of Class XII. As Vasudhara puts it: “The Art of Living session was great! It made me feel confident and calm. I used to stand aside in my dance classes earlier; but now I no longer care whether anyone is laughing at my performance. I have also realized that one should never waste food. There are millions of people around the world who go without food every day. In having my meals now, I try to ensure that nothing goes waste. The Art of Living has also taught us that we should always be respectful to our parents and teachers as it is because of them that we are here. I would go out any influence my friends on the principles of Art of Living. For me it is not possible to change the world, but if I can change 2-3 people that itself will be great.”

Like Ankit and Vasudhara, Akshay too has started feeling the change within himself after attending the Art of Living Session. Says Akshay: “It helps in personality development and also builds up the level of confidence and concentration. Now I feel on the top of the world”. Ankit, Vasudhara and Akshay all agree that the Art of Living has taught them compassion towards the weak and coy. As Akshay puts it: “The Art of Living has taught us how to bring in harmony between the mind, body and emotions through Sudarshan Kriya! It has helped us becoming more respectful towards our parents and teachers. After attending the session we all met our teachers and touched their feet. It was not for the first time that we did it. But this time it was with great reverence and understanding.”

Explaining the thoughts that went behind taking Art of Living to schools, the Foundation’s instructor, Mr Rajinder Singh Gandhi, said “our objective is to insulate students from stress through various breathing techniques. If one is in stress, then one cannot be happy. We also want to nurture the latent values that already exists in each and every human being. Besides, Art of Living techniques also help in bridging the communication breaks between the students and teachers”.
